Coroners

Delivering evidence to support the inquest into the death of another human being is a significant responsibility on us all. As Commanders, or those responsible for providing advice to them, it is important you understand what the role of His Majesty’s Coroners are, your role as a witness in that process, and the expectations placed on you.

All Operational Commanders are required to maintain occupational competency on ‘Coroners Court’ (TIS NC03-14) and the below videos (broken into 2 parts) use material available from NHS Resolution.

These videos will cover:

  • The role of the coroner and purpose of an inquest
  • How to prepare for an inquest
  • Giving evidence at an inquest – a well-prepared witness

Further information, including some frequently asked questions, can be found in this guide.
