Driver Training Team

Current Service Update

  1. Training for the Roll-out of Kia EV6 Cars: The initial phase involves visiting the 32 ambulance stations across the North West and delivering half-day training sessions to all SPTLs. These sessions are conducted on a 1:1 basis and include a Section 19 High-Speed Driving Regulation (HSRD) assessment. The team is working diligently, with some even putting in weekend hours, to ensure the smooth roll-out. Fleet has requested that we prioritise the Cumbria and Lancashire area initially, as this is where the first cars will be stationed. Once we complete this first phase, which we anticipate will be in a few months, we will then move on to phase two. In this phase, we will revisit all stations and offer training to additional personnel who need to drive these vehicles.
  2. Initial Four-Week CERAD Driver Training Courses: As a team, we remain committed to delivering this initial driver training course to all new recruits, following HR’s recruitment plan. These courses are for EMT apprentices, Paramedic Inductions, and PTS team members.
  3. Return-to-Work Assessments: We are also conducting return-to-work driving assessments, ensuring our ability to assist individuals in returning to work and driving.
  4. Training Our New Team Members: To address the escalating demands on the driver training team, we have proactively recruited eight new members who are currently undergoing training. Upon their full qualification, they will play a crucial role in conducting training courses and ensuring Section 19 compliance. This strategic move is expected to enhance our operations, making us more responsive and collaborative as we navigate the fourth quarter and beyond.

As an educational department, we recognise the importance of continuous personal development. While we would love to offer extensive driver development training to everyone in the organisation, we, like all NHS departments, operate under constraints, necessitating the prioritisation of the training we deliver.

Temporary Pause on Developmental RRV Training Courses: As a result of the above, all developmental RRV training courses are temporarily paused. We appreciate your understanding in this matter.
