Leadership of Self

The Leadership of Self module is the foundation of the Making a Difference leadership programme at NWAS. This module focuses on developing self-awareness, self-management, and resilience – critical capabilities needed for compassionate, inclusive and resilient leadership.

In today’s complex and rapidly changing healthcare environment, strong leadership starts with knowing yourself. As a leader, your own health and wellbeing affects your team. By developing your emotional intelligence, you can role model self-care and resilient leadership for others.

Through self-reflection and practical tools, this module will help you:

  • Explore your values, strengths, and development areas as a leader
  • Manage disruptive emotions and stress in order to think clearly under pressure
  • Develop personal resilience to thrive amidst challenge and change
  • Practice self-care to sustain your energy and passion as a leader

This face-to-face workshop brings together leaders across NWAS to learn together. You’ll gain insights about yourself while also connecting with a community of peers for support.

Leading yourself with compassion and wisdom is the first step to making a positive difference. This module equips you with the inner resources to show up as your best self and be the leader your team and organisation needs.

Bookings are made via MyESR. See the short film on the Green Room on how to book your place or just try searching in your ESR learner homepage for leadership.

Testimonial from NWAS staff member:

“Before the session, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I knew it would be a session focusing on myself. The experience turned out to be incredibly valuable, providing me with a better understanding of what I could and couldn’t control. I found the discussions on putting that understanding into practice particularly enlightening. Additionally, hearing about how others manage their workloads and priorities was insightful and provided me with valuable coping mechanisms.

This module has had a significant impact on me, reinforcing the importance of setting aside time for myself. The realisation of this has already begun to reshape how I approach various aspects of my life. The module stood out from others due to its relaxed and open nature. The face-to-face interactions with different groups across the Trust fostered meaningful conversations, making the experience more engaging and beneficial.

While it’s only been a week since the course, making it a bit early to observe significant changes, I am optimistic about the positive transformations that will unfold in the coming weeks and months. Overall, the module exceeded my expectations, offering a unique and effective approach to personal development that I found both refreshing and impactful.”
